Gay man called ‘faggot,’ given burger ‘seeping with blood’ by McDonald’s employee

A gay man has said he was called a ‘faggot’ by a MacDonald’s employee, then given a ‘completely raw burger seeping with blood.’

Luis Hernandez, 24, went to a branch of the fast food chain in Puyallup, Washington state around 3.35pm on Sunday (19 April).

The student said as he was ordering, he could hear the manager ‘scolding and humiliating’ an employee.

‘I found that to be completely disrespectful and unprofessional and decided to voice my opinion to the employee that was taking my order,’ he told Gay Star News.

‘I stated if she was my manager and was in my face, I would not tolerate that.’

Hernandez said the employee’s ‘entire demeanor changed’ and he went over to the manager to tell her what he had said.

‘As they both were speaking, they both turned around and looked at me and then I explained that he did not need to tell her. I then stated that I would gladly explain to her how I felt about her scolding an employee in front of customers and crew members,’ he said.

‘She then looks at me, shrugs her shoulders and says, “I really don’t care.”’

Hernandez said while he waited for his food, the employee who took his order told a colleague about the incident, then turned to look at him and said, ‘See? That is why I do not like faggots.’

Hernandez said he became very upset but the employee denied he was talking about him.

‘I said, "Well who you are talking to because I am the only faggot at this counter?’ Hernandez said.

‘I do not dress like the average straight guy. Not only that, I am extremely feminine and my whole demeanor shows that I am gay.’

He said the employee slammed his tray on the counter and ignored him when he asked him to put it in a bag.

When he arrived home, Hernandez discovered that he had been given ‘a completely raw burger seeping with blood.’

‘As I proceeded to bite into my sandwich, I smelt this horrific smell and to my surprise my hamburger was completely raw inside of it and the bun had blood all over it,’ he said.

Hernandez said he immediately called the store but the manager he confronted in the restaurant answered.

He said he tried to tell her about the anti-gay slur and the bloody burger but she told him that the employee would not talk to customers in that way and that the burger had not been tampered with intentionally.

‘She then tells me that she doesn’t want to talk to me anymore and hangs the phone up,’ he said.

Hernandez said the experience was ‘completely humiliating and quite embarrassing’ and he will never eat at McDonald’s again.

‘I live in a predominately Caucasian town and I’m a minority and gay. I they are discriminating against me,’ he said.

‘No one no matter what race or sexual orientation should have been treated this way.’

Hernandez said he complained to MacDonald’s corporate offices who told him they were handling the matter internally.

‘I feel like McDonalds does not care about what happened. I have yet to receive an apology!’ he said.

‘These employees intentionally tried to make me sick. This is a serious health hazard.’

Hernandez said he tried to file a police report but was told it was a civil dispute.

He then contacted the health department to inspect the restaurant.

An inspector said the case was in fact criminal because the food was tampered with and the second time he tried to complain to police, he was allowed.
