Islamic extremists have thrown a man off a cliff for being gay, a Syrian human rights group has said.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) has said the man, based in eastern Syria’s al Mayadin city, was blindfolded and thrown off a cliff for ‘sodomy’.
It is said the relatives of the man were informed after his execution.
The report has pointed out ISIS has changed from its usual practice of carrying out the executions in public places, typically in front of large crowds.
Since ISIS, also known as Daesh, have taken control of territory in Iraq and Syria, there have been several executions of gay people, with many beheaded, thrown off buildings or stoned to death. They have branded homosexuals the ‘worst of creatures’.
SOHR estimates at least 1,511 civilians have been killed so far, including 32 women and 23 children.
