Gay powerlifter wins eighth British title

A gay powerlifter has delivered his lifetime-best performance to clinch his eighth British Championship title.

Chris Morgan made a winning lift of 272.5 kilos (600 pounds) to take the title in the 82.5kg class. His final lift also secured the overall Best Male Deadlift trophy at the championships in Stafford.

After the competition, Morgan said: ‘I’m absolutely delighted to have won my eighth British Championship, along with the Best Lifter award.’

The event marked the gay athlete’s final outing as a senior competitor. He is about to turn 40 and will then become a Masters Category 1 lifter.

‘At this moment I seem to be getting stronger with age, so the plan is to continue lifting in Open Deadlift competitions whilst I’m still enjoying competitive “single event” lifting,’ Morgan explained.

‘I’d like to thank all of my colleagues in the British Drug Free Powerlifting Association for their support and all of my friends at the Federation of Gay Games for the inspiration they have provided throughout my career so far.’

Morgan will defend his World Deadlift Championship in Antwerp (Belgium) in June and his European Deadlift Championship in Cherkassy (Ukraine) in September.
