Gay radio DJ Nick Grimshaw to be named as new X Factor judge

Gay Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw is set to be unveiled as the new X Factor judge in the next 24 hours, according to show sources.

One of Harry Styles’ best friends will be named officially soon, after meeting with show creator Simon Cowell yesterday (14 June.

The music mogul reportedly praised the 30-year-old presenter for his credentials.

‘I think anyone who works in the business, and loves music, has a right to be on this show,’ he reportedly said, according to The Sun.

‘Nick loves artists and music, that’s what I love about him. I like the fact that he’s from the North so he represents them.’

The report also claims that Kiss FM DJs Rickie Haywood-Williams and Melvin Odoom will join the show to front spin-0ff The Xtra Factor, replacing axed presenter Sarah Jane Crawford.

It is still unclear who will join the judging panel alongside Nick, Simon and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, after rumors that Simon is trying to sign up Rita Ora.

A source recently told the Daily Star: ‘Re-signing Cheryl and getting Grimmy changed everything.

‘Rita really wants to be on that panel now so it’s a matter of making the logistics work. There’s a lot to work through.’

While it looks set that Nick could join the ITV singing competition, he could end up on Channel 4 hosting the revived TFI Friday.

Former host Chris Evans voiced his support for the gay DJ, saying: ‘I think Nick is the future of the show.

‘I think this is good fun for us oldies, but if this show comes back he is the guy, he is the guy.’

However, many TFI Friday fans were less than happy about the suggestion, taking to Twitter to say Nick should not be the new host.

‘I don’t want to live in a world that could even contemplate Nick Grimshaw presenting #TFIFriday,’ one user wrote.

Another tweeted: ‘No, no, no, first mis-step of the night. Nobody needs MORE Nick Grimshaw. #TFIFriday’
