The Sydney Harbour Bridge just lit up with probably the gayest display of fireworks ever.

In celebration of marriage equality in Australia in 2017, rainbow fireworks shone bright in the midnight sky.

At this particular New Year’s Eve party, you can also hear the Pet Shop Boys’ classic gay anthem Go West.

Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore tweeted the announcement of rainbow fireworks earlier this month.

She wrote: ‘This New Year’s Eve, I can’t wait to see the rainbow waterfall cascade from Sydney Harbour Bridge at midnight to celebrate a historic year for Sydney’s LGBTI community.’

2017 was a historic year indeed for Australia. It launched a voluntary postal survey to see public opinion on same-sex marriage.

After Australians voted overwhelmingly in favor of it, politicians quickly passed it through parliament.

Then we started seeing same-sex marriages pop up all over the country.

Congratulations, Australia! And welcome to 2018.
