German skier Felix Neureuther latest to criticize Russian gay propaganda ban

German skier Felix Neureuther has become the latest athlete to speak out against Russia’s ban on so-called ‘gay propaganda’ to minors which makes any mention or depiction of homosexuality or homosexual persons that can be accessed by children a crime.

Neureuther said Russia should not have been chosen as the host of the 2014 Winter Olympics because of its poor human rights record.

‘It’s not right,’ Neureuther said after a World Cup slalom win in Bormio, Italy on Monday

‘The guys from the IOC should think about where to put the Olympic Games. It’s not right to give the Olympic Games to places where they are giving the most money. It should be about the sport, in nations where there is passion.’

The slalom event was the final skiing event before the Sochi Games start 7 February but Neureuther said he would not be engaging in any form of protest as an athlete during the games.
