Gold medal! Tom Daley wins in 10m platform

Britain’s Tom Daley is back in the gold.

The diver claimed his first individual World Championship gold medal in eight years.

The 23-year-old Daley’s victory came on Saturday (22 July) in the 10m platform final in the World Aquatics Championship held in Budapest.

Daly, who married writer/director Dustin Lance Black in a fairytale wedding in May, won with a score of 590.95, ahead of Olympic champion Chen Aisen of China (585.25).

Daley was eliminated in the semi-finals of the same event at the Olympics in Rio last year.

He told the BBC that he felt more competitive than ever before this championship.

‘It’s been such a tough year getting over that competition in Rio,’ the BBC reported Daley saying. ‘I’m just so happy with the way it turned out. My score was a personal best and I think it would have got the gold last year at the Olympics.’

Daley won his first world title at Rome 2009 when he was 15 years old.

After his victory, Daly tweeted, ‘I am world champion!!! Now time for that long overdue honeymoon @dlanceblack

Black tweeted back ‘I already couldn’t have loved you more or been prouder so I’ll just go full Texan and say Holy Cow! My husband is World Champion! Now let’s go honeymoon. I love u @tomdaley1994!!’

Congratulations Tom!
