Hayley Kiyoko released her first single and music video from her upcoming debut album, Expectations. And it’s a doozy.
Kiyoko has been winning over queer music lovers’ hearts since 2013. Her hit single Feelings became an LGBT anthem last year.
The singer and voice actor first announced her new album in December. She teased it with a cheeky photo and the fabulous hashtag #20GAYTEEN.
Now her newest song, Curious, is here and it’s everything.
‘It’s all about self-respect’
While the title Curious may cause some to think the song is about exploring one’s sexuality, it’s not.
‘This song is all about self-respect and knowing when to walk away when someone you care about is playing games,’ Kiyoko says about the bop.
In the music video, Kiyoko is at a house party when a — presumably — ex-girlfriend shows up with another guy.
Here’s the super catchy chorus:
If you let him touch ya, touch ya, touch ya, touch ya, touch ya, touch ya/The way I used to, used to, used to, used to, used to, used to/Did you take him to the pier in Santa Monica?/Forget to bring a jacket, wrap up in him cause you wanted to?/I’m just curious, is it serious?
As the two hook up in the bathroom, Kiyoko wants to know if there’s anything still there. Or if she needs to walk away and protect herself.
The singer continues: ‘The treatment I came up with for the video helps gets that point across in a fun and tongue-in-cheek way. I hope people connect with it and can’t wait for everyone to see it!’
Expectations arrives on 30 March.
