Hong Kong businesses work to engage straight allies

Hong-Kong-based corporate social responsibility (CSR) advisors Community Business are running a conference tomorrow to help corporations with offices in Asia to engage straight allies to make better working environments for LGBT employees.

The event, which people can attend in person or watch online, will feature a live video link-up with Todd Sears in New York.

Sears founded Out on the Street, an LGBT network for Wall Street bankers in the US. He authored a recent report called The Power of Out 2.0 which highlighted in the importance of engaging straight allies in corporations to make more comfortable workplaces for LGBT employees.

Representatives from banks Nomura, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan and Deutsche Bank will join a panel discussion.

‘Why all banks?’ said Community Business program manager Kevin Burns to Gay Star News.

‘Well, really because these are the companies that have got their LGBT inclusion programs started in Asia. The reality is that most companies have not had a chance to do that.’

Community Business will also launch an ‘engaging allies’ component of their online resource for helping companies becoming more LGBT inclusive.
