How to achieve beach bliss in Koh Samui

Koh Samui, about an hours’ flight from Bangkok, provides the serenity Pattaya will most likely never know.

There aren’t any high-rises on Koh Samui due to planning regulations; the tallest things you’ll see here are the palm trees, and most hotels have exclusive beachfront access.

Don’t stay near Bophut unless you like feeling you can reach up and touch planes landing as you swim, but visit the area for it’s amazing restaurants.

Stay in Chaweng if you want to be close to shops and markets; and while the shopping will most likely never be as developed as the hospitality and invitation to relax, it’s a great place to take children, including babies and toddlers.

The Thai sense of family means you’ll soon have many offers to babysit.

This is the destination that gives truth to Thailand’s Land of Smiles reputation. And yes, there’s a sex industry, but it’s hidden, unlike Pattaya or Bangkok.

And the ‘Handy Cap’ sign on an airport toilet door prompts a chortle and adds to the charm.
