Indian TV channel Star World has been censured for airing a Grey’s Anatomy scene about an ‘homosexual encounter’ which the industry regulatory body claims was ‘denigrating’ to women.

Broadcasting Content Complaints Council (BCCC) issued the notice over the episode, aired in June, following complaints from the ministry of information and broadcasting.

The ‘indecent, vulgar’ scene in question does not feature any actual sex. Instead, a bisexual female doctor asks advice from a male surgeon on how to sexually pleasure a woman.

Nevertheless, the BCCC said the scene should have been censored.

‘Keeping Indian audiences in mind we felt that the scenes were not tasteful. So we have asked them to respond,’ a BCCC member told The Times of India.

Star World has until 1 December to respond to the complaint.

India’s Supreme Court re-criminalized gay sex in December 2013.
