The internet has declared the babadook a gay icon and we are here for it

This is how the babadook became a gay icon

Judy Garland, Madonna, Lady Gaga and now the Babadook – all could be considered an icon of the LGBTI community.

Not familiar? The babadook is a monster from the 2014 horror film of the same name.

In the film, it is a creature from a children’s book who comes to life to terrorize the world.

While it might not be your usual tragic actress or glittering pop star, the monkey-like monster in a top hat has somehow become a symbol of the LGBTI community.

It all started last year when Netflix listed The Babadook under the LGBT movies sub-genre.

And then it has taken a life of it’s own.

We’re here, we queer, we love the babadook. Get used to it.
