James Arthur reportedly dropped from Simon Cowell’s record label

James Arthur, winner of the X Factor UK in 2012, has been dropped from Simon Cowell’s Syco record label, according to The Sun.

Arthur’s new rap mixtape, All The World’s A Stage, is due for release later this month, but has landed the singer in hot water due to some of the lyrics which seem to glamorize terrorism and drugs.

In Follow The Leader, Arthur raps: ‘Look at what you do to me, I’m crying over stupid shit/ You’re such a fucking homophobe, wish I’d never let you in/ To think that I was thinking maybe I should let you live/ I’m gonna blow up your family like I’m a terrorist.’

He defended the track on Twitter this morning (6 April), comparing it to Eminem’s song ‘Stan’, which was about an obsessive fan.

Arthur tweeted: ‘The song ‘follow the leader from the mixtape is not promoting terrorism, it’s a story, a reciting of a Stan Esc letter from a demented fan.’

He also answered questions about the lyrics on Friday (4 April): ‘The song is from the point of view of demented fan hence the homophobe reference and the aggressive tone.

‘In the story the fan turns on me… Can’t wait for you to hear it in context!’

The 26 year old is yet to confirm his departure from Syco, but Cowell recently commented that the star should have ‘shut up and just put the records out’.

Another track reportedly sees Arthur brag about taking drugs, singing ‘I can smoke my weed, you can drink rosé, all day’.

The X Factor winner first caused controversy last November when he released a diss track laden with homophobic slurs including ‘You fucking queer’. He consequently faced a backlash from the gay community, including fellow X Factor alumnus Lucy Spraggan, and a slump in album sales and radio play.

In March, Arthur compared himself to ‘exploited’ SeaWorld orca Tilikum, the subject of award-winning documentary Blackfish, asking fans to submit artwork for his mixtape: ‘I would like the front cover to be a drawing of a killer whale/Orca from sea world who features in the documentary “Blackfish” TILIKUM.

‘Ideally I’d like him to be attacking a crowd of people, lashing out after being exploited. Include my name and the title of the mixtape.’

According the The Sun, a source said: ‘It seems James is self-destructing. He has done himself no favors with his outbursts. It’s as if he’s almost willing Syco to drop him.

‘Simon and Syco have been extremely loyal to James throughout his problems but there’s only so much they are prepared to put up with.

‘It’s a very sad and messy way for this to all end.’
