Actor James Van Der Beek has shared his own experiences of sexual harassment.

The Dawson’s Creek star has opened up and applauded the women speaking out against Harvey Weinstein.

Multiple women in the entertainment industry have come forward, sharing details of cases where the Hollywood mogul has harassed them sexually.

In tweets, Van Der Beek explained: ‘I’ve had my ass grabbed by older, powerful men, I’ve had them corner me in inappropriate sexual conversations when I was much younger.’

Actor Terry Crews also shared a tale of being sexually harassed by another male, while his wife watched.

‘Read this for perspective’

Van Der Beek continued: ‘What Weinstein is being accused of is criminal. What he’s admitted to is unacceptable – in any industry. I applaud everybody speaking out…

‘I understand the unwarranted shame, powerlessness & inability to blow the whistle. There’s a power dynamic that feels impossible to overcome.’

Van Der Beek tweeted an article written by a woman who spoke about her sexual harassement experiences and how Hollywood normalizes such cases.

He added: ‘For anyone judging the women who stayed silent, read this for perspective. Also for anyone brushing off harassment as “boys being boys.’

The actor was 21 when he began starring in US teen drama Dawson’s Creek.

Actresses Gwyneth Paltrow and Angelina Jolie are amongst the women to have have come forward with sexual harassment experiences involving Harvey Weinstein.

Meanwhile actress Lindsey Lohan took to Instagram to defend Weinstein, saying she feels bad for him.

She also said his wife needs to take a stand and ‘be there for her husband.’
