Ever since Jason Collins announced he was a professional basketball player who happens to be gay, his identical brother has had to explain, to some, they have the wrong man.
Last week (15 May) the twins appeared on the Jimmy Kimmel Live late night show. Jarron recounted a story about being in an airport restroom after his brother’s Sports Illustrated article appeared.
"I was literally at the urinal,’ Jarron said. ‘Nobody wants to have a conversation at the urinal. I look over and someone turns to me and says: "Jason?" No. That’s the other one.’
To end any future confusion, the host handed Jarron a t-shirt that said ‘I’m the straight one.’
Jason noted all the support he has received in recent weeks, from former coaches, teammates and fans, has been positive. His brother put that encouragement in social media terms.
‘Let me put this in perspective via Twitter,’ Jarron said. ‘My brother went from 3,000 followers to up to over 100,000 followers. In one hour. His popularity has soared through the roof.’
Below is a clip from the show.
