Jennifer Hudson reveals how she owes her career to gay people

Jennifer Hudson has revealed how gay people enabled her to go from $25 gigs to winning an Oscar.

The 32-year-old singer and actress shot to fame after appearing on American Idol in 2004, but reveals her singing roots are in gay clubs.

‘I used to go to gay clubs when I was a kid,’ the ‘And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going’ singer explained.

‘We were 16 or 17 and my best friend would pretend to be my manager.’

She added to V Magazine: ‘He’d have business cards made up and he’d negotiate for me to sing for $25 a song.

‘I’d have these amazing drag queens style me up and down, honey.’

‘They would be up there lip-synching and then I’d get up and sing for real – some Whitney Houston or some old-school Shirley Murdock – and I would make all the money. That was like my training, basically.’

Hudson also made it clear her singing days are far from over.

‘This is what I love,’ she said. ‘I just can’t help myself.’
