Jennifer Saunders has hinted that she might revive Absolutely Fabulous, while making it ‘age-appropriate’.

She made the comments while interviewing fellow comedy producer John Plowman at the Cheltenham Literature Festival.

‘I am thinking at the moment of writing a little something,’ Jennifer admitted when the subject of the iconic BBC show came up.

‘It has to be age-appropriate otherwise we’d have to be in wheelchairs basically,’ she added. I think Julia [Sawalha who plays Edina Monsoon’s daughter Saffy] is old enough to be my mother now.’

‘It is very tiring’

The star added that the show, which costarred Joanna Lumley is Patsy, is ‘always on my mind. Always.’

Jennifer shot to fame as one half of comedy duo French and Saunders, alongside Dawn French.

Speaking about political correctness in comedy, the BAFTA fellow said: ‘I think it is harder to write what we used to write because there is just always someone tutting in the back of your mind. “Oh what do you think? Don’t you think someone might be offended?” It is very tiring.’

Absolutely Fabulous, which also starred Jane Horrocks as Bubble and June Whitfield as Gran, ran for five series and multiple TV specials.

A 2016 movie which featured a cameo from supermodel Kate Moss was met with positive reviews. However, some criticized its LGBTI representation.
