Gay marriage in New Zealand will get a high flying start next month with actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson hosting a wedding aboard an Air New Zealand flight.
The Modern Family star will be aboard a flight between Queenstown and Auckland on 21 August, the day the country’s gay marriage law goes into effect. The ceremony for a still-to-be-determined couple will take place during the flight.
The country’s national airline says it recruited Ferguson to participate in the festivities to attract worldwide media interest in the event.
The couple chosen for the stunt will also be gifted with a honeymoon to Palm Springs, California.
‘Naturally, the couple’s family and friends will want to be on hand for the special occasion so we have plenty of seats set aside for them,’ Air New Zealand’s head of global brand development Jodi Williams tells the Herald Sun.
Ferguson will be participating in the event as a married man himself. He and fiancee Justin Mitka are scheduled to be married in New York this month.
