Georgia GOP Chairwoman Sue Everhart’s suggestion that gay marriage will lead to straight people teaming up to commit marriage fraud was ridiculed by comedian Jimmy Kimmel on his late night show Tuesday (2 April).
‘From as straight guy’s perspective, marrying another guy is a lot to go through for free dental,’ Kimmel joked.
Everhart said gay marriage ‘is all about a free ride’ had shared this premise with The Marietta Daily Journal: ‘You may be as straight as an arrow, and you may have a friend that is as straight as an arrow. Say you had a great job with the government where you had this wonderful health plan. I mean, what would prohibit you from saying that you’re gay, and y’all get married and still live as separate, but you get all the benefits?’
To that Kimmel cracked: ‘Probably the same things that would prohibit you from being straight and doing it.’
Kimmel added: ‘The best part of her argument is it actually is the premise of the Adam Sandler-Kevin James movie I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry. She was led to believe that was a documentary.’
The host also sent a camera crew to West Hollywood to interview random pairs of people and had his audience try and guess which were gay couples and which were just friends.
