Julianne Moore fights for same-sex marriage and adoption rights in Italy

Julianne Moore has waded into the ongoing struggle for LGBTI rights in Italy.

The Freeheld actress was asked a question by a reporter who had asked whether it was right for same-sex couples to raise a child together.

Italy’s parliament is currently fighting over a same-sex civil unions bill. One clause would allow a man or woman to adopt their same-sex partner’s biological child.

‘Having a family is a matter of human rights,’ she said. ‘Everyone should have the right to have a family. People taking care of each other, that’s what it means to be a family.’

Greta Gerwig, her co-star in Maggie’s Plan, agreed.

‘I believe that every individual should have this right,’ she said. ‘I have a brother and sister who I’m not biologically related to, I feel lucky.’
