As more claims of sexual misconduct mount, a representative for Kevin Spacey broke the silence.
A PR agent for Spacey released the following statement to GSN: ‘Kevin Spacey is taking the time necessary to seek evaluation and treatment. No other information is available at this time.’
It all started when Anthony Rapp made allegations against Spacey on Sunday night (29 October). He claimed Spacey made inappropriate sexual advances towards him in 1986, when Rapp was only 14 and Spacey was 26.
In his response, Spacey came out, writing he now chooses ‘to live as a gay man’. Many people, including several LGBTI celebrities, criticized Spacey for his response.
Since then, several more men have come out with allegations against Spacey.
This is the first statement from Spacey and his team since Sunday’s response. It’s unclear what ‘evaluation and treatment’ mean since there is no elaboration.
However, consequences for Spacey this week have been swift. First, Netflix announced the end of House of Cards and halted production. Then, the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences revoked his special Emmy.
