Kinky Boots triumphs at must-watch Tony Awards

The Tony Awards returned bigger and better with gay actor Neil Patrick Harris back as host for the fourth year in a row.

Honoring the achievements of Broadway theater productions over the past year, drag queen musical Kinky Boots was the big winner taking home six awards.

They included Best Musical, Best Score and Best Leading Actor in a Musical.

Introducing the opening number, Patrick Harris  joked he would not have been there if Shia Labeouf  ‘hadn’t passed on hosting’.

The awards ceremony returned to Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

The opening number was a real extravangaza and mind-blowingly spectacular with casts from several of the top musicals such as Kinky Boots, Bring It On and Matilda.

The Tony awards were billed as a battle between the US and the UK’s biggest hitting musicals – Kinky Boots, with music from American singer Cyndi Lauper, and Matilda, from Australian and British comic Tim Minchin.
