US singer Lady Gaga has been cast as the Liverpudlian Cilla Black in a new film based on the life of Dionne Warwick.
LaToya Luckett, a former member of Destiny’s Child, will star as Warwick, while Danny Glover will play her father and Oscar-winner Olympia Dukakis will play Marlene Dietrich.
Gaga, who won a Golden Globe for her role in American Horror Story, will be playing the villain in the film, titled Dionne.
The biopic will cover Warwick’s early career in the 1960s. Warwick called Black her ‘nemesis’ after she felt her version of Anyone Who Had A Heart, which shot to number one in 1963, eclipsed her original. Warwick said Black ‘stole her music’.
Warwick, who is known for hits like I Say A Little Prayer, announced the project at Cannes. Dionne is based on her memoir My Life As I See It.
