The music video for Lady Gaga’s new song Applause was released today (19 August).
Delivering high-intensity visuals with Gaga in a variety of different guises, the video is a hit with her Little Monster following.
Highlights from the video include a black bra that looks like a pair of hands, the paint-smeared face that has been doing the rounds as part of the single’s promotional campaign, and a bizarre scene where Lady Gaga’s is stitched onto black swan’s body.
Applause entered the top ten in five countries at the weekend, having climbed the iTunes charts around the world since its rush-release last Tuesday (13 August).
The ‘Bad Romance’ singer has also been in the news over the past week for her Twitter outbursts aimed at celebrity gossip blogger and former close friend Perez Hilton.
On Wednesday the pop star wrote: ‘Still have the text Perez sent me of me in a wheelchair w the words KARMA written across + Madonna pointing a gun at me. Day of my accident’.
She then encouraged her fans to stay strong and stand up against adversity: ‘Please monsters do not be affected by someone like this NOTHING merits this kind of hatred. Im ok & I always survive. Ignore him. Just Dance’.
The feud continued over the weekend after one of Gaga’s fans spotted Hilton in the apartment block where she lives.
This prompted Gaga to tweet: ‘STAY AWAY FROM ME + MY FAMILY YOU ARE SICK TRYING TO RENT AN APARTMENT IN MY BUILDING TO STALK ME. LEAVE ME ALONE!!!’
The tweet has now been deleted, but it sparked a flurry of death threats aimed at Hilton from Gaga’s supporters. Many of the tweets were calling the gossip columnist ‘faggot’ and other homophobic slurs.
Calling the accusations he is stalking the Applause star ‘preposterous’, Hilton explained he was being shown an apartment in the same building but he didn’t know she lived there.
He asked Gaga’s fans to stop sending death threats, and said he wished the singer continued success and happiness.
