Lady Gaga spends Black Friday at an LGBTI homeless youth center

Lady Gaga visited Ali Forney Center the day after Thanksgiving

Madonna on Thanksgiving. Lady Gaga the day after, on Black Friday. The divas are showing the holidays are more than mindless consumption.

The Mother Monster visited Brooklyn’s Ali Forney Center, an organization that works with LGBTQ homeless teenagers. Brooklyn is one of the five boroughs of New York City.

Gaga wasn’t just about meditation. She sang Million Reasons, a single from the album Joanne, and talked about how helping others is part of self-preservation.

‘It lowers our blood pressure to be kind to one another,’ she said.

The center, named after a gender non-conforming teen who fled his home at 13, assists nearly 1,400 kids a year who have been kicked out of their homes.

In 1997, when he was 22, Forney was murdered. In 2002 the organization was formed, with just six beds, in a church basement. It has grown into ten housing sites and a multi purpose drop in center.

Donations and volunteers are always needed. Check the group out here.
