Lady Gaga’s next role could be in a video game with a history of transphobia.
The Oscar-winning performer is heavily rumored to be in the upcoming game Cyberpunk 2077.
Heavily anticipated, the game takes place in a science fiction California with poverty, guns and robots.
Lady Gaga set to star in anticipated video game
Sources close to French gaming website Actugaming.net has claimed the queer pop superstar and actor was seen at a studio in Poland.
‘We have just learned, from sources close to the studio, that a collaboration between Lady Gaga and CD Projekt Red is on the horizon for Cyberpunk 2077’, the website writes.
‘The artist was seen at the Polish studio and several details follow.
‘Of course, it will be necessary to wait before having the official announcement, but the information comes to us from sources who preferred to remain anonymous and that one cannot quote.’
The game has not confirmed Gaga’s appearance.
But in September last year, the official Cyberpunk 2077 replied to a cryptic message from Gaga on Twitter.
She posted: ‘AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHRHRGRGRGRRRGURBHJB EORWPSOJWPJORGWOIRGWSGODEWPGOHEPW09GJEDPOKSD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!0924QU8T63095JRGHWPE09UJ0PWHRGW.’
And in response, the Twitter account for the game said: ‘Of course! Of course we will! 😎’
History of transphobia
But the game is not being anticipated by all.
The official Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account used a meme that mocks transgender people.
‘Did you just assume their gender,’ the tweet said. The account was responding to a fan saying they wanted more from the ‘guys’ at Gamescom.
The meme is also often used to belittle or demean concerns of transgender people.
The tweet was later deleted an apology issued ‘to all those offended’.
‘Sorry to all those offended by one of the responses sent out from our account earlier,’ a tweet on the official Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account said. ‘Harming anyone was never our intention.’
CD Projekt Red did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
