While appearing on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Lance Bass revealed he came out to Britney Spears on the night of her first wedding.
The singer appeared on the talk show alongside This Is Us star Chrissy Metz.
Cohen first brought up Spears, when he says to Bass during the conversation: ‘I remember you telling me Britney Spears was one of the first people you came out to.’
Bass confirms this and Cohen asks him what her reaction was. That’s when he tells a pretty remarkable story of this coming out moment.
So why did Bass come out on her wedding night?
‘It was the night she got married the first time, in Vegas,’ Bass says to set the scene.
Spears first got married in 2004 to childhood friend Jason Allen Alexander. The marriage, however, was annulled only 55 hours later. A court petition stated Spears ‘lacked understanding of her actions’.
The singer continues, saying he went to Vegas to ‘see the craziness that was happening’.
According to him, Spears did have some understanding of what occurred, because he described her as being ‘upset’ once she realized.
‘She started really crying, she was so upset,’ Bass tells Cohen in the video. ‘So I took her to her room and we sat on the bed. She wouldn’t stop crying so I was like, “I’m gay.”
‘And it made her stop crying.’
Bass then says Spears chuckled and was supportive of his coming out to her.
