Juan Pablo Galavis, the current star of ABC’s The Bachelor, may have lost some fans after making some anti-gay comments but Lance Bass is not one of them.
‘I don’t hate him at all,’ Bass told the Associated Press this week. ‘I still think he’s cute.’
Galavis has apologized for saying a gay version of the show would not be good for kids. He also said gays are ‘more "pervert" in a sense. And to me the show would be too strong… too hard to watch.’
Says Bass: ‘Of course it’s disappointing, because you don’t want someone who (you) actually love to have those thoughts.’
The singer, who released his first new single in 12 years this week, points to Galavis being from Venezuela.
‘When you grow up in a place like that, you get brainwashed into thinking that way, you know, you can’t help what you grow up with,’ Bass said.
‘I mean, I grew up in Mississippi, so I know how people can get brainwashed into thinking really, really awful things. So hopefully, he will learn from this and get educated.’
Ratings for The Bachelor have not suffered due to the controversy with this week’s episode garnering roughly many viewers as a week earlier.
