Laverne Cox: I don’t want facial surgery

Transgender actress Laverne Cox has said she is happy with her ‘imperfect’ face and does not want facial feminization surgery.

Cox, 31, who plays hairdresser Sophia Burset in the Netflix prison drama Orange is the New Black, started a Twitter hashtag, #transisbeautiful, after Caitlyn Jenner’s Vanity Fair cover was released last month.

Cox said Jenner’s coming out had given transgender people ‘unprecedented affirming visibility,’ but she does not want facial feminization surgery like the former Olympian and Keeping Up with the Kardashians star.

‘I have never talked about the medical details of my transition, and a lot of people assume I’ve had all this surgery,’ she told the Guardian.

‘Years ago, I wanted really highly invasive surgical procedures to feminize my face. All these years later, I have the money to do it, but I don’t want it. I don’t want it! I’m happy that this is the face that God gave me, and it’s imperfect.’

Cox said that she was recently told by a commenter on Instagram that she should get her a nose job. She didn’t reply.

‘No, girl! My fans were like, that’s the nose African Americans have, and what’s wrong with that?’ she said.
