A Democratic party staff is suing his ex-boss Eric Bauman for allegedly forcibly performing oral sex on him several times.

William Floyd, Bauman’s former assistant, accuses the former boss, the state party and the Los Angeles County Democratic Party of sexual harassment, assault, battery, negligence and civil rights violations.

Bauman denies the allegations.

Former staffer accuses ex-boss of sexually assaulting him at least three times

Floyd, now 28, began working as Bauman’s assistant in 2016.

He says Bauman assaulted him at least three times and groped him on numerous occasions.

Floyd alleges Bauman threatened him, claiming he said ‘if you cross me, I will break you.’

Bauman resigned late last year after other allegations of sexual misconduct.

Floyd alleges Bauman first assaulted him in 2016 at a hotel.

He says while in a hotel room with Bauman and two other party members, he fell asleep.

When he woke up, he and Bauman were alone and Bauman was performing oral sex on him, the lawsuit alleges.

The lawsuit also details two other incidents where Floyd says Bauman forced him to submit to oral sex. It alleges Bauman often drank heavily at work.

Democratic Party kept Bauman ‘in conscious disregard of the rights of…others’

Floyd also accuses the party of ignoring concerns, saying Bauman was retained in ‘conscious disregard of the rights and well-being of others.’

Alexandra Gallardo Rooker, who took over as acting chair, said she first learned about the allegations through the lawsuit.

‘The allegations that are made in this lawsuit are very serious and deserve a hearing,’ Rooker said.

‘The most appropriate venue for us all to learn the truth, whatever it may be, is ultimately in the courtroom.’

Daraka Larimore-Hall, the second vice-chair of the party, filed paperwork requesting Bauman’s removal in November 2018.

He said he spoke to two victims, plus a witness Bauman allegedly intimidated. The alleged victims were party staff members.

‘I believe the victims.’

In his letter, Larimore-Hall also stated: ‘I believe the victims. Their stories illustrate a clear and escalating pattern of Chairman Bauman’s horrific and dehumanizing behavior.

‘This is unacceptable for a political organization dedicated to feminism, human rights and just working working conditions. Our activists and voters look to us as a force for social change, and we must embody the values we fight for in society.’

Bauman became chair of the California Democratic Party in May 2017. It is the largest State Democratic Party in the US. Previous to that, Bauman was vice chair from 2009-2017. His professional background prior to this was in nursing. He lives in North Hollywood with his husband.

Bauman’s lawyer Neal Zaslavsky said in a statement: ‘Mr. Bauman denies the allegations in the complaint and looks forward to complete vindication once the facts come out.’

Floyd is seeking unspecified damages including lost earnings and legal costs.
