A lesbian couple have been found guilty of murdering their two-year-old son Liam Fee in Fife, Scotland.
Rachel Fee and her partner Nyomi were found guilty of assaulting and killing their young child after a prolonged period of abuse.
The toddler was found with more than 30 injuries to his body.
To cover up the crime, the court heard the pair convinced a seven-year-old boy in their care that he killed Liam.
They told him he had strangled Liam, and then placed his hand inside the dead boy’s mouth, in an attempt to frame him.
The seven-year-old boy, as well as another boy in the two women’s care, were also being abused.
One of the boys had been tied inside a cage and bound the other to a chair in a locked room with caged rats and snakes which they said ‘eat little boys’.
Other abuse included forcing the boys to eat dog poo and stand under cold showers for a long period of time.
When the seven-year-old boy was interviewed, with him under the belief that he had killed Liam, police and social workers realized he may not have been the murderer
The pair, originally from Newcastle, were found guilty of all charges brought against them including the abuse of two other seven-year-old boys in their care. This included the boy they tried to implicate in Liam’s death.
This story has shocked the UK. Fife Council has since announced it will review the efforts of child protection agencies who were alerted to Liam’s case.
