Lesbian singer announced as voice of the new black Powerpuff Girl

Toya created the Powerpuff Girls theme song for Africa

Lesbian South African singer Toya Delazy is the voice of the new Powerpuff Girl.

In a landmark move, the new character is black.

Toya’s Powerpuff Girl will join the original three in a new Powerpuff Girls five part mini-movie called ‘Power of Four.’

While she still has no name, the new Powerpuff Girl will be purple-themed.

‘We have a lot of surprises up our sleeves’

While fans were originally skeptical about a reboot of the class, the introduction of a black Powerpuff Girl has calmed them.

Toya has been described as a perfect fit.

Senior Vice President at Turner Broadcasting in Southern Europe and Africa, Jamie Ondarza, spoke to NME about the news.

He said: ‘Toya is definitely a perfect fit as the fourth Powerpuff Girl.

‘She is confident, bubbly and quirky, all the values that we are familiar with, love and appreciate.

‘We have a lot of surprises up our sleeves.’

There’s not that long to wait either.

Powerpuff Girls: The Power of Four will air 17 September at 5:30pm EST on Cartoon Network.
