Did Lil Nas X just come out as gay?

Lil Nas X

Performer Lil Nas X appears to have come out on the last day of Pride Month in the US. Yesterday, the singer and rapper, 20, posted a tweet asking fans to listen closely to the lyrics of his recent track, C7osure.

‘Some of y’all already know, some of y’all don’t care, some of y’all not gone fwm no more. but before this month ends i want y’all to listen closely to c7osure.’

The lyrics of C7osure could be about moving on to a new chapter in his life.

‘Ain’t no more acting, man that forecast say I should just let me grow,

‘No more red light for me baby, only green, I gotta go,

‘Pack my past up in the back and let my future take a hold

‘This is what I gotta do, can’t be regretting when I’m old.’

However, in the context of his tweet, which features a rainbow emoji and a reference to potentially losing fans and followers, posted on the last day of Pride month, and it seems Lil Nas X – real name Montero Hill – is revealing something else.

His fans have taken it as his coming out moment. It’s unclear if he identifies as gay, queer, bisexual or otherwise.

‘Thought I made it obvious’

To drive home the message, Lil Nas X followed it up with another tweet.

‘Deadass thought I made it obvious.’

The tweet included a close up of the artwork for recently released EP, 7. The close-up is on a building in a cityscape that is decorated with rainbow lights.

He also retweeted a tweet from a Brooklyn-based performer Little Chizz.

‘So when you cheated on your baby, it was with a n****?’ asked the tweet, to which Lil Nas X’s response was a simple ‘lmfaooo’.

Old Town Road

Raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Lil Nas X made headlines last year with the release of his country-inspired track, Old Town Road.

It climbed to number one on the Billboard 100 earlier this year. It also charted in the top 20 Hot Country Songs. However, Billboard controversially later removed it from that chart after complaints from the country community in Nashville that it wasn’t authentically country enough to qualify.

Lil Nas X released his debut EP, 7, on 21 June.

He performed alongside Billy Ray Cyrus at the BET awards last month. Yesterday, the two of them joined Cyrus’ daughter, Miley and on stage at the Glastonbury festival in England. They performed Old Town Road together. Lil Nas X also performed new track, Panini.

GSN has contacted representatives for Lil Nas X for further comment.
