Stan Lee may used to have been the president of Marvel, but he doesn’t keep up with everything going on in the comic books.
Like, for instance, that Iceman is gay.
The writer and publisher appeared on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, where presenter told him the superhero has come out in the books and asked him for his reaction.
‘I wasn’t involved in that, that may have been after I stopped writing the books. I didn’t really have any gay characters. If they were gay I didn’t play up the fact they were gay.
‘I wasn’t aware of it. In fact, you telling me that – this is the first time I had heard that Iceman is gay. Is Iceman really gay?’
When the presenter confirmed it, Stan said he no longer read the comic books as his eyesight wasn’t great and the font size is too small for him.
‘This is the first time I learned that Iceman is gay. Wow, I never knew that.’
He added: ‘I don’t care what happens as long as they tell good stories. And they do.’
