Singers Macklemore and Kesha croon their way through a new, nostalgic duet, Good Old Days. The single appears on Macklemore’s forthcoming solo album, Gemini.
The song, featuring a simple piano and drum-filled melody, is an emotional tune about what once was.
Kesha opens the song with a familiar refrain: ‘I wish somebody would have told me that / Some day, these will be the good old days … Someday soon, your whole life’s gonna change / You’ll miss the magic of these good old days.’
In Macklemore’s verses, he gets personal. He reflects on aspects of his life from stardom, touring, to substance abuse.
It’s a poignant, if bitter message, laced in a song that remains sweet. As Kesha sings, ‘You don’t know what you’ve got / Till it goes, till it’s gone’.
Macklemore spoke to Rolling Stone about working with Kesha. ‘She is someone that I walked into the room and I immediately just caught a vibe with and became friends with pretty instantaneously,’ he said. ‘She’s a musician, she’s a writer, she’s someone that is not afraid to try ideas in the studio, not afraid to get vulnerable in front of people, not scared to go for the high note when she doesn’t know if she can hit it or not.’
Gemini arrives this Friday, 22 September. Macklemore will embark on a North American tour for the album, starting in Portland on 6 October.
