Madonna has just announced she will take part in the Pride celebrations in New York this 30 June.
The iconic pop star has confirmed this morning that she will be performing as part of New York’s Pride, alongside Grace Jones and others.
Madonna at Pride
In a video shared with Today, Madonna announced ‘I will be on Pride Island, where I was born’.
The singer appeared wrapped in a rainbow flag.
NYC Pride has confirmed that the Like A Virgin singer will perform at the WorldPride NYC 2019 Stonewall 50 event on Sunday 30 June. The location for the festival is New York’s Hudson River Park Pier 97.
Madonna is about to release her new album
Madonna is about to release her fourteenth studio album Madame X, due out on 14 June.
Fans can currently buy a rainbow vinyl edition of the album on Madonna’s website. Moreover, the pre-sale pack will contain a rainbow flag.
The artist’s proceeds will go to The Trevor Project, the world’s largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for LGTBI youth.
What do we know on Madame X?
The new album is set to be different from anything Madonna has ever done before.
Influenced creatively by living in Lisbon, Portugal over the past several years, Madame X will contain 15 tracks celebrating Madonna’s career-long affair with Latin music and culture.
But it won’t be shy of other global influences. Madonna will showcase her singing skills alongside her language skills by speaking in Portuguese, Spanish and English.
I Rise is the anthem for Pride
In May, Madonna has dropped new empowering track I Rise. This follows Medellín, the first track off the new album, released with Colombian singer Maluma.
The song is ‘a way of giving a voice to all marginalized people who feel they don’t have the opportunity to speak their mind,’ Madonna said in a statement at the time.
‘This year is the 50th anniversary of Pride and I hope this song encourages all individuals to be who they are, to speak their minds and to love themselves,’ the icon also said.
