It’s known she’s been working with former collaborator, French producer Mirwais, on her new album. Much of it has been recorded in Portugal, where she and her kids have been based in recent months.

It’s her 14th studio album, since releasing Rebel Heart in 2015.

Around 20 minutes before the release of the song, she posted a tweet revealing the new single is today’s Beats 1 World Record on Apple Music with Zane Lowe.

She also posted two countdowns to her Instagram story in the lead-up to the release of Medellin.

In it, she revealed the name of the single, as well as mentioned BBC Radio 1’s Zane Lowe. She also used the words ‘World Record’

It comes about after she posted several announcements over the past week about the new album.

She even dropped a minute-long trailer for the album, where she introduces the world to her new alter-ego.

In the video, Madonna says her new alter-ego: ‘Madame X is a secret agent. Traveling around the world. Changing identities. Fighting for freedom. Bringing light to dark places.’

She then added: ‘She is a dancer, a professor, a head of state, a housekeeper, an equestrian, a prisoner, a student, a mother, a child, a teacher, a nun, a saint, a whore and a spy… in the house of love.’

Madonna also posted a series of soundless videos of her playing a piano accordion and a guitar.

New era of Madonna

Madonna’s latest release was a debut of her new song Beautiful Game at the Met Gala in May 2018.

She also posted a 37-second fun song about safe sex on Instagram in February 2019, but hasn’t dropped new music since.

Fans have been waiting four years for another studio album from the iconic superstar.

But just last week, it was also confirmed Madonna will play two songs at the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv, Israel.

She will sing one song from her back catalogue and one from her upcoming album during the song contest’s grand finale on 18 May.

Israeli-Canadian billionaire Sylvan Adams will cover the cost of bringing Madonna, as well as her 60-person team, to Israel.

The superstar reportedly asked for $1 million to perform, according to the Jerusalem Post.
