The son of NBA legend Magic Johnson came out publicly when TMZ cameras captured he and his boyfriend holding hands as they walked down Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles.
Earvin Johnson III (aka EJ), is a 20-year-old student at NYU and is in Los Angeles on spring break.
The younger Johnson, wearing a large fur coat, stopped briefly for TMZ to answer questions about the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team of which his father is now part owner, and the Lakers.
He said he ‘hoping and praying’ for a good baseball season and predicted that renovations to the stadium would be ‘amazing.’
The boyfriend does not speak during the interview but can be seen smiling. He is not identified.
It’s clear EJ is out to his parents since Johnson and his wife issued this statement after the interview surfaced: ‘Cookie and I love EJ and support him in every way. We’re very proud of him.’
The elder Johnson, who announced he was HIV-positive in 1991, spoke out against Proposition 8, California’s ban on marriage, when it was a ballot measure in 2008.
