Manhunt continues, medical bill fundraiser launches for assaulted NY gay couple

An online fundraising campaign has been launched to help pay the hospital bills of a New York gay couple who were attacked in broad daylight.

Nick Porto and Kevin Atkins were attacked by a group of men around 5 pm in the afternoon last Sunday for walking arm-in-arm down a busy Manhattan street. This attack was the first of two gay bashings in New York over the course of five days.

Porto was released from the hospital with a broken nose, and Atkins’ arm was broken in the attack. The couple, ages 22 and 28, also lost their iPhone and iPad in the attack.

The Nick Porto and Kevin Atkins Relief Project was started by Matthew Kilgore who asks the public to ‘help restore [Nick and Kevin’s] faith in humanity by helping them out!’

The Indiego campaign looks to raise $5,000 (€3851) by 23 June, 2013 to help the couple pay for their medical bills and personal items lost in the attack.

Police have released video footage of a group of suspects they are looking to question. No arrests have been made in connection with the attack.

Police have asked that anyone with information call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). The public can also submit tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website atwww.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.com or by texting tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then entering TIP577. All calls are strictly confidential.
