Marco Rubio: Gay marriage is a ‘real and present danger’ to Christianity

Florida Senator Marco Rubio has warned gay marriage poses a ‘real and present danger’ to Christianity.

The Republican presidential hopeful made the comment during an interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network, which was uploaded online on Tuesday (26 May).

‘We are at the water’s edge of the argument that mainstream Christian teaching is hate speech,’ he said.

‘Because today we’ve reached the point in our society where if you do not support same-sex marriage you are labeled a homophobe and a hater.’

What does Rubio think is the next step?

‘After they are done going after individuals, the next step is to argue that the teachings of mainstream Christianity, the catechism of the Catholic Church, is hate speech,’ he said.

‘That’s a real and present danger.’

Rubio is a vocal opponent of gay marriage, which he said was ‘ridiculous and absurd’ to consider a constitutional right.

But he did say that he would attend the wedding of a gay family member, even though he would disagree with their ‘choice.’
