Mel B and Duncan James announced as hosts for British LGBT Awards

Mel B will be hosting the RBS British LGBT Awards

The organizers of the RBS British LGBT Awards have announced the celebrity hosts for this year’s event.

The ceremony, which will take place at in London on 13 May will be presided over by former Spice girl Mel B and singer Duncan James of boy band Blue.

James was among the first to take to Twitter to confirm the news.

In a statement, Mel B (Melanie Brown) said, ‘I am really excited to be hosting the 2016 RBS British LGBT Awards next month. It is a fantastic event that recognizes the LGBT people doing wonderful things and the straight allies who give so much support to the LGBT community. I’m proud to be part of it.

‘It is going to be a brilliant night filled with surprises and a glitzy guest list that is just fabulous. The British LGBT Awards is the hottest ticket in town.’

Besides Brown and James former TOWIE star, Charlie King, will present footage from the red carpet and report on the celebrity attendees and backstage gossip.

Among the celebrity nominees in this year’s event, which acknowledge and reward both LGBT advocates and straight allies, are Caitlyn Jenner, Hillary Clinton, Ruby Rose, Boy George, Paul O’Grady, Clare Balding, Sam Smith, Cara Delevingne, Sue Perkins, Nicola Adams and Eddie Redmayne.

Organizations up for business awards include Barclays, Clifford Chance, IBM and Virgin. Other award categories include ‘Charity/Community Initiative of the Year’, ‘LGBT Network of the Year’ and ‘LGBT Diversity Champion’.

Brown picked up legions of gay fans when she shot to fame in the 90s with the Spice Girls. She has enjoyed solo hits and latterly enjoyed a successful career as a host on X Factor both in the UK and Australia.

In 2014, she opened up to The Guardian about being in a four-year relationship with a woman before her current marriage to husband Stephen Belafonte.

‘People call me lesbian, bisexual or heterosexual, but I know who’s in my bed and that’s it. I have a huge libido and a great sex life.’

James has talked before about being bisexual and of the relationships he had with men and women. He is currently touring the UK in a production of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.
