Singer Timothy Heller has accused her former best friend Melanie Martinez of sexual assault.

Martinez, a US singer who gained popularity after appearing on singing talent show The Voice, has denied the allegations.

Heller has not provided any evidence to support these claims.

In a letter posted on Twitter, Heller started by claiming Martinez and herself used to be best friends.

The two previously lived together and toured as a team.

Describing the previous friendship as ‘toxic’, she alleges The Voice star ‘molested’ and ‘raped’ her.

In her statement, Heller alleges Martinez and herself were having a sleepover at an unnamed time when Martinez became ‘increasingly interesting in my sexual preferences.’

After the two of them got high, Heller continues to claim, Martinez asked repeatedly if she could touch Heller’s breasts.

‘I was so exhausted and confused and high and belittled I just allowed it to happen,’ she wrote.

Heller then claimed Martinez continued to molest her, performed oral sex on her, and penetrated her with a sex toy.

She says she did not ‘scream at her’ or ‘force her off of me’ because she loved Martinez and ‘just wanted it to all be over.’

‘We never talked about this night ever again. While it completely messed with my head, there was no way I could have been RAPED by my best friend…. right?’ Heller added.

‘Our friendship ended because she decided she didn’t have time for me anymore,’ Heller continued.

‘Girls can rape girls. Best friends can rape best friends. Friendship does not equal consent. Silence doesn’t equal consent.’

Martinez has responded to the claims, saying she is ‘horrified and saddened’ by the allegations.

The Voice star says any and all sexual contact between the two was consensual.

‘I am horrified and saddened by the statements and story told tonight by Timothy Heller,’ she said on Twitter.

‘What she and I shared was a close friendship for a period of time.

‘We came into each other’s lives as we were both starting our careers as artists, and we tried to help each other.

‘We both had pain in dealing with our individual demons and the new paths we were forging, but I truly felt we were trying to lift each other up.

‘She never said no to what we chose to do together.

‘And although we parted ways, I am sending her love and light always.’
