The only mention of ‘gay’ on new White House website refers to old word for ‘happy’

The White House isn't likely to be illuminated in rainbow lights anytime soon under a Trump-Pence administration.

There is now only one mention of gay on the White House website, but not in a way that you’d expect.

Once the Trump administration took office, they wasted no time on removing such liberal ideas gay rights, climate change, civil rights and healthcare from the website.

There is, of course, a page dedicated to Melania Trump’s QVC jewelry line.

During Barack Obama’s presidency, if you searched LGBT on the website, you would reach a page highlighting the administration’s victories and policy changes on LGBTI rights. It celebrated the win on same-sex marriage and featured campaigns like the It Gets Better Project.

Now, under Trump, if you type in gay you only get one result.

You will find a page dedicated to a biography of Grace Coolidge, First Lady of 30th President Calvin Coolidge, and uses the word ‘gay’ to mean happiness. This is a meaning of the word gay that hasn’t been used since Coolidge’s presidency in the 1920s.

‘To Grace Coolidge may be credited a full share in her husband’s rise in politics,’ the biography reads. ‘She worked hard, kept up appearances, took her part in town activities, attended her church, and offset his shyness with a gay friendliness.’

We also searched for LGBT, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersex, LGBTQ, LGBTI, and nothing else was found.
