If you were commuting in Australia today and saw someone holding the Herald Sun newspaper with a perplexed look on their face, they may have been reading this letter.
Jan, from Traralgon, sent in her thoughts over the ongoing same-sex marriage debate.
‘When I was a kid at school, we were taught about the birds and the bees. Not the birds and the birds or the bees and the bees. Just saying…,’ she said.
Guardian journalist Denham Sadler pointed out the letter, calling it ‘quite possibly the stupidest thing ever sent in to a newspaper.’
People on Twitter were quick to make fun of the slightly ridiculous view.
@denhamsadler Goodness, imagine if birds had sex with birds and bees had sex with bees! Wait…

Some said yes, the world might be a different place when Jan was growing up.
@denhamsadler "We were once taught something… and now that thing may be slightly different. Just saying…"
