Karen Pence spoke at rally for republican candidate Mark Harris, who wants to outlaw gay sex.
The wife of Vice President Mike Pence supported the North Carolina congressional candidate on Monday (8 October).
Harris is an evangelical preacher known for condemning the LGBTI community.
At the rally in Charlotte, North Carolina, Karen Pence told the crowd: ‘Mike and I support Mark Harris for Congress. I’m here because this race is so important.
‘He’s the kind of strong, principled conservative leader who will stand with this administration to deliver results. He’s a husband, a father, a pastor, a leader. He has devoted his life to service to others… a devoted servant of God.’
The administration supporting hate
At a 2015 Rally for Liberty in Jomeokee, North Carolina, the Republican said: ‘In one generation you and I have witnessed this country sliding from a nation who once shared a moral vision based on Judeo-Christian ethics to a nation floundering in moral decay.
‘In one generation, we have watched our nation who once believed in lifelong marriages to the same spouse to a divorce rate now well over 50%.
‘We have watched in one generation where homosexuality was once criminalized, to now, we see the criminalization of Christianity.’
Mark Harris has a long history of anti-LGBTI stances. According to Right Wing Watch, he claimed that being LGBTI is a choice.
He said: ‘I’ve yet to buy in, as there is not the medical evidence, that an individual that chooses the homosexual lifestyle is born that way. That is a choice.’
The candidate is also a firm supporter of Family Research Council, a group who consistently target LGBTI people.
Also, he fought for the Public Facilities Privacy and Security Act. Dubbed the second ‘Bathroom Bill’, it banned trans people from using the bathrooms that correspond with their gender identity. Also, it targeted existing and future LGBTI discrimination protections.
