Miley Cyrus donates $500k to fire relief efforts after losing her home

Miley recently released new single Malibu

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth donated $500,000 to The Malibu Foundation after losing their home in a deadly wildfire in Southern California.

They made the donation through Cyrus’ charity, The Happy Hippie Foundation.

Currently, there are three major fires ravaging across the Golden State. One in the northern half of the state, the Camp Fire, has become the most destructive in history. The fire so far has spread across 135,000 acres, destroyed more than 8,800 structures, and caused 48 confirmed deaths. It is 35% contained.

The smallest fire, the Hill Fire, occurred in Southern California, and has burned over 4,500 acres. It is 94% contained.

Finally, the Woolsey Fire is the one that destroyed Cyrus and Hemsworth’s Malibu home.

It is 47% contained and has burned across nearly 100,000 acres. There have been two confirmed fatalities and 435 destroyed structures.

Cyrus revealed they lost their home on Monday.

‘I am one of the lucky ones. My animals and LOVE OF MY LIFE made it out safely & that’s all that matters right now,’ she wrote on Twitter.

‘My house no longer stands but the memories shared with family & friends stand strong. I am grateful for all I have left.’

Hemsworth posted a photo of their destroyed home on Instagram — and the ‘LOVE’ sign that remained.

It’s been a heartbreaking few days. This is what’s left of my house. Love. Many people in Malibu and surrounding areas in California have lost their homes also and my heart goes out to everyone who was affected by these fires. I spent the day in Malibu yesterday and it was amazing to see the community pulling together to help each other out in any way they can. Malibu is a strong community and this event is only going to make it stronger. Thankful for the all the great local guys that helped keep smaller fires out around my property. I love u guys. I love you Malibu. Thank you to all the hero firefighters around California. It’s going to be a journey to rebuild. Stay strong all. To help/donate visit @malibufoundation and @happyhippiefdn

Helping rebuild

According to a statement by Cyrus’ representative, the ‘community and state are very special to them and they want to give back to the place that has created so many beautiful memories for themselves and others’.

The donated money will go towards things like community rebuilding, wildlife preservation, and helping those in financial need.

Many praised the couple’s generosity.

Other celebrities like Caitlyn Jenner and Gerard Butler have also lost their homes.

Last year, both fires and mudslides affected thousands of lives, including Ellen DeGeneres and Oprah.
