More than half of people completely oppose the idea of a gay James Bond.

Over 2,000 Americans were asked about the possibility of casting a different kind of lead in the action movie role.

Most Americans were of the view that ‘nothing’ should be changed about theseries.

However, support for a black Bond was high at 52%.

This is perhaps because Idris Elba is hotly tipped for taking over the role from Daniel Craig.

The Morning Consult/Hollywood Reporter survey found 39% said they’d be happy if a Hispanic actor took the role, while 37% backed an Asian actor.

Surprisingly, many were happy with the idea of a female bond. 37% of adults voiced support for that option.

However, a gay Bond had the least amount of support. Only 28% supposed the idea of a gay lead character with over half opposing it completely.

Roger Moore, the man who played Bond in more films than anyone else, said 007 could never be gay.

Pierce Brosnan, another veteran Bond, when asked the same question initially supported a gay 007, saying ‘why not?’ and adding ‘it would certainly make for interesting viewing’.

But he believes Barbara Broccoli, the James Bond producer, wouldn’t consent her lifetime.

Craig, however, has said ‘anything is possible’ when it comes to reimagining the character.

Ian Fleming’s original books have gay references but nothing pro-gay. This was a time when the intelligence community associated homosexuality with corruption, particularly due to Britain’s Cambridge spy scandal of the early 50s.
