Mother stabs gay son, burns his body, then claims self-defense

Itaberlly Lozano was beaten up before his mother stabbed him

A mother has reportedly confessed to stabbing her son to death because he was gay.

Afterwards, she burned his body.

Tatiana Lozano Pereira, 32, is accused of stabbing her 17-year-old son Itaberlly Lozano, after Christmas.

She was arrested in the family’s house in the small town of Cravinhos, four hours north of the city of São Paulo.

According to G1, Pereira and her son fought on 27 December, after which the teen moved in with his paternal grandmother and his uncle, Dario Rosa.

Lozano returned home on 29 December, after receiving a call from his mother; some outlets claim she lured her son back home.

When Lozano entered the house, the teen was ambushed by his mother and two men she had hired to beat him up.

Originally, the mother reportedly wanted them to ‘teach him a lesson’.

But when he was lying on the floor, she ordered them to kill the young man instead.

When they refused, Pereira took a kitchen knife and stabbed Lozano herself, Fox News quotes the authorities.

Together with her husband, Lozano’s stepfather, Pereira removed the boy’s body from the house.

They took him to a nearby cane field, where they burned the body.

Lozano’s charred remains were found on 7 January, a week after the murder.

Two days later Pereira, who had told the family her son had run away, filed a missing person’s report for her son.

She was arrested, together with her husband, on 11 January; according to G1, the handed themselves over to police.

Local media say she confessed her part in the crime in the first interrogation, and also named the two men who were hired to beat the teen.

The mother claims Lozano used drugs and brought men home.

According to her lawyer, Fabiano Ravagnani Junior, the teen had assaulted his mother and she acted ‘with emotion and self-defense’, which is how she ‘ended up committing this murder’.

The teen’s uncle told G1 this wasn’t true, and it was the first time Pereira had accused her son of using drugs.

He also says Pereira killed her son because of his sexuality, and said she had long abandoned Lozano.

Pereira’s husband was also charged, for collaborating in disposing of Lozano’s body.
