Netflix, TripAdvisor slam Straight Pride organizers for using their logos

Netflix and TripAdvisor are among the companies who hit back at Straight Pride organizers for using their logos.

The streaming platform and the travel review aggregator are two of the companies whose name was used without permission by Super Happy Fun America (SHFA), the group behind Straight Pride.

At the end of June, Boston city officials approved an application for a parade to take place in August. Ahead of the event, the group recently insinuated they are gaining the support of ‘prospective corporate sponsors’.

In the blog post about it, they included the logos of several major corporations, Netflix and TripAdvisor included.

But the companies weren’t happy about it. And both sent SHFA fantastic, worth-reading cease and desist letters.

Netflix ‘is here, it’s queer, and it’s telling you to steer clear’

‘You should know that we’re unafraid of bullies. Our legal department is here, it’s queer, and it’s telling you to steer clear,’ Netflix’s IP Department wrote in an email to SHFA.

‘You are using the Netflix logo to promote your event, which despite its name is about hate–not pride. That’s gross and deeply hurtful, but it’s also deceptive misinformation and infringes our legal rights.’

‘Netflix has nothing to do with your organization or event. Indeed, it’s telling that you feel the need to lie to gain legitimacy,’ the company’s lawyers wrote.

Netflix gave SHFA 24 hours to remove its logo from their website. SHFA took this as an opportunity to label Netflix as ‘a heterophobic company steeped in hatred and bigotry’.

In a subsequent blog post, SHFA said ‘Netflix has no qualms about using their position of power to threaten marginalized groups who are exercising their first amendment rights.’

TripAdvisor summoned all major LGBTI bops against Straight Pride

TripAdvisor also posted a letter on their social channels, throwing the most epic shade in the form of iconic music references.

‘I’m Coming Out and saying this clearly: You are infringing upon our intellectual property rights,’ the letter reads.

‘You Need To Calm Down – you are not sponsored by, associated or affiliated with TripAdvisor in any way,’ it continues.

‘If I Could Turn Back Time, I would tell you not to use our name in the first place.’

The letter references at least thirteen different songs.

Brad Pitt and Straight Pride

Earlier this year, SHFA came under fire for exploiting Brad Pitt’s name and image for their purposes.

The SHFA website was using the Inglorious Basterds star’s name and image without his consent.

The organization ‘on behalf of the straight community,’ called Pitt its mascot for the agenda.

‘Congratulations to Mr. Pitt for being the face of this important civil rights movement,’ its site reads.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Fight Club actor asked for his image to be removed. Openly gay alt-right pundit Milo Yiannopoulos has been the marshal for the event ever since.
