Patricia Jannuzzi, a religion teacher at Immaculata High School in New Jersey who said the ‘gay agenda’ would to lead western civilization to a ‘slow extinction’, has been has been placed on administrative leave.
On Friday, her Facebook rant made the news after Oscar-winning actress Susan Sarandon slammed the former teacher of her gay nephew.
Greg Bennett of the Real Housewives of New Jersey, who graduated from the school in 2004 and who had Jannuzzi as a teacher his senior year, also shared the now-deleted screenshot of the teacher’s post on Twitter.
He said in an Instagram post: ‘Vitriol like this from religious fanatics doesn’t shock me much anymore, but knowing this woman has a hand in shaping the minds and hearts of students today does not sit well with me. I’m proud of having made it through high school unscathed by convincing myself early on that it’s just a blip on the radar when looking at the big picture. I worry about students like me, who are sitting in the same place I was, listening to hate like this from authority figures and thinking that there might not be a world beyond Somerset county (or whatever suburban purgatory they’re hoping to move beyond).’
According to Mycentraljersey.com, Msgr. Sean Brennan, pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish, and Principal Jean Kline said in a letter to the school community that the postings by Jannuzzi were ‘completely inconsistent with our policy and position as a Catholic Christian community’ and had asked that she disable her Facebook page.
They said that the school ‘is a community that follows the example of Jesus Christ in welcoming all people.’
‘We will do everything we can in this trying time to make clear that the philosophy of Immaculata High School is one of inclusion rooted in the teachings of Jesus Christ,’ said the letter posted on the school’s website.
Earlier this week, Jannuzzi said on her Facebook page that gays or gay activists ‘want to reengineer western civ (sic) into a slow extinction’ as part of their ‘agenda.’
‘We need healthy families with a mother and a father for the sake of the children and humanity!!!!!’ She also added that the argument that gays are protected under the 14th Amendment is ‘bologna.’
The letter added that the school is ‘taking every necessary step to reinforce established guidelines and promote a clear understanding of acceptable use of social media and to refresh sensitivity awareness consistent with Christ’s teachings.’
